At its core, screen-printing is a traditional method of pushing thick, vibrant ink through a woven mesh stencil directly onto a piece of fabric.
Think of it like using a highly advanced cookie cutter or a stencil you might have used in grade school. Instead of coloring inside the lines with a marker, we use a rubber blade to swipe ink over a screen. The screen is blocked off everywhere except where your design is, allowing the ink to pass through only in the exact shape of your logo or artwork.
When is Screen-Printing Recommended?
Screen-printing is the gold standard of the apparel industry, but it isn’t the perfect fit for every single project. Because setting up the screens takes time and materials, it shines brightest in specific situations. Here is when you should definitely choose screen-printing:
You need a lot of items (Bulk Orders): Because most of the work is in the initial setup, printing the actual shirts is incredibly fast. The more shirts you order, the cheaper each shirt becomes. It’s perfect for family reunions, company uniforms, or band merchandise.
Your design has solid, bright colors: Screen-printing inks are thick and opaque. If you want a bright yellow logo to “pop” on a pitch-black hoodie, this is the best way to do it.
Your artwork is relatively simple: It works beautifully for bold text, solid shapes, and classic logos (typically 1 to 4 colors).
You want it to last forever: When properly printed and baked, a screen-printed design will outlast the garment itself without cracking or fading.
When to skip it: If you only need one or two shirts, or if your design is a full-color photograph with hundreds of shaded colors, we usually recommend a digital printing method instead, as making 50 different screens for a photograph isn’t practical!
What is screen printing best for?
Screen printing is best for bulk orders with bold, solid-color designs of one to four colors — company uniforms, team shirts, band merchandise and family reunions. The thick, opaque inks make bright colors pop on dark garments, and a properly cured print outlasts the garment without cracking or fading.
Why is screen printing economical for bulk orders?
Because most of the work is in the one-time screen setup. Once the screens are made, printing each additional shirt is fast, so the cost per shirt drops as your quantity grows — the more you order, the cheaper each item becomes.
Decoration Method
Sublimation
What is Sublimation Printing?
“Sublimation” is just a fancy science word for when a solid turns directly into a gas without melting into a liquid first.
In our world, it means we use heat to turn special solid inks into a gas cloud. That gas then absorbs perfectly into the fibers of a shirt. When it cools down a few seconds later, the ink locks permanently inside the fabric. If you run your hand over a sublimated shirt, you can’t feel the design at all—it just feels like the bare shirt!
When is Sublimation Recommended?
Sublimation creates breathtaking, permanent prints, but it has one major rule: it only works well on light-colored, polyester fabrics. The gas ink needs synthetic plastic fibers (like polyester) to bond with; it washes right out of natural fibers like cotton. Also, because sublimation ink acts a bit like a highlighter pen, you can’t print it on a dark shirt—you wouldn’t be able to see it! Here is when you should absolutely choose sublimation:
You want full-color photographs: Because we print the paper on a digital printer, we can print millions of colors, smooth gradients, and highly detailed photos without having to set up dozens of screens.
You are making activewear: Workout shirts, cycling jerseys, and sports uniforms are usually 100% polyester. Sublimation is perfect because it doesn’t block the fabric’s pores, allowing athletes to sweat and the shirt to breathe.
You hate the “heavy” feel of ink: If you want a perfectly smooth, lightweight shirt where the design never cracks, peels, or fades in the wash, sublimation is unbeatable.
You only need a few items: Because there is no complicated screen setup, it’s highly cost-effective to print just one or two custom mugs, mousepads, or shirts.
When to skip it: If your project requires dark fabrics (like a black hoodie) or 100% natural cotton (like a classic vintage tee), sublimation won’t work. For those, we would steer you back toward screen-printing or another digital method!
What is sublimation printing best for?
Sublimation is best for full-color photographs and detailed designs on light-colored polyester — especially activewear like workout shirts, cycling jerseys and sports uniforms. The ink bonds inside the fabric, so the print feels completely smooth and never cracks, peels or fades. It’s also cost-effective for small orders like one or two mugs or shirts.
Does sublimation work on cotton or dark fabrics?
No. Sublimation ink only bonds with synthetic fibers like polyester and washes out of natural fibers like cotton, and it can’t show on dark fabric. For dark garments or 100% cotton, choose screen printing or DTF transfer printing instead.
Decoration Method
Embroidery
What is Embroidery?
At its simplest, embroidery is the art of decorating fabric by sewing a design directly into it with thick, colorful threads.
Think of the sharp logos on golf polos, company jackets, or the classic team logos on baseball caps. Instead of doing it by hand with a single needle like your grandmother might have done, we use massive, high-tech, computer-driven sewing machines. These machines have multiple needles loaded with different colors of thread and can stitch hundreds of times per minute with incredible precision, giving your logo a classy, 3D texture you can actually feel.
When is Embroidery Recommended?
Embroidery offers a high-end, premium look that instantly elevates your brand, but thread behaves very differently than ink. Because stitches add weight and texture, this method works best on sturdier items. Here is when you should definitely choose embroidery:
You want a professional, corporate look: Nothing says “established business” quite like an embroidered logo on the left chest of a polo shirt, button-down, or quarter-zip sweater.
You are customizing hats: Embroidery is the absolute best way to decorate baseball caps, trucker hats, and winter beanies. The thick thread looks fantastic on headwear.
You are decorating heavy outerwear: Thick items like fleece jackets, heavy hoodies, and backpacks can be tough to print on, but they hold up beautifully to the heavy stitching of embroidery.
You want maximum durability: High-quality embroidery thread rarely fades and will never crack or peel. The logo will almost certainly outlast the jacket it’s sewn onto!
When to skip it: If you have a massive design that covers the whole back of a shirt, embroidery will make the garment heavy, stiff, and uncomfortable. It is also not recommended for very thin, stretchy t-shirts (the heavy thread will cause the thin fabric to pucker) or for designs with tiny, complicated details and shaded photographs. For those, we’ll point you back to our printing options!

Which garments work best with embroidery?
Sturdier items: polos, button-downs, fleece jackets, heavy hoodies, backpacks — and especially headwear. Embroidery is the best way to decorate baseball caps, trucker hats and beanies. Avoid it on very thin, stretchy t-shirts, where the heavy thread can pucker the fabric.
Decoration Method
Transfer (DTF) Printing
What is DTF Printing?
DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. Just like the name sounds, instead of printing ink directly onto a shirt, we print your design onto a special piece of clear plastic film.
We then coat the wet ink with a specialized adhesive powder and bake it. This turns your digital design into a solid, flexible transfer that we can apply to almost any piece of clothing using a commercial heat press. When we peel the clear film away, the ink and glue are left securely bonded to the fabric.
When is DTF Recommended?
DTF printing has become incredibly popular because it breaks almost all the rules of the other printing methods. It is incredibly versatile and solves a lot of the headaches that come with screen-printing or sublimation. Here is when you should definitely choose DTF printing:
You want full-color on dark shirts: Unlike sublimation, which only works on light colors, DTF has a solid white base layer. This means you can print a bright, full-color photograph on a pitch-black hoodie without any issues.
You are using tricky fabrics: Sublimation only works on polyester, and screen-printing can be tricky on certain blends. DTF transfers will stick beautifully to almost anything—100% cotton, polyester, nylon, canvas, and even leather!
You have tiny, floating details: If your logo has lots of disconnected letters or tiny floating stars, DTF handles them perfectly without needing a bulky background border.
You want to print in awkward spots: Because we are pressing a piece of film, we can easily apply DTF designs to neck labels, pocket borders, sleeves, or hats where a giant screen-printing press simply can’t reach.
When to skip it: DTF creates a thin, rubbery layer on top of the shirt. If your design is a massive, solid block of color (like a giant 12-inch square), a DTF print will feel heavy, a bit sweaty, and stiff on your chest. For large, solid designs, or if you are ordering hundreds of shirts with just a simple 1-color logo, traditional screen-printing is still the more comfortable and cost-effective route!
What is DTF transfer printing best for?
DTF is best for full-color designs on almost any fabric — 100% cotton, polyester, nylon, canvas, even leather. It handles tiny floating details without a background border and can be applied in spots a screen-printing press can’t reach, like neck labels, sleeves, pockets and hats.
Does DTF printing work on dark garments?
Yes. DTF transfers include a solid white base layer under the ink, so a bright, full-color design prints perfectly on a pitch-black hoodie — something sublimation can’t do.
